HOW TO INCREASE YOUR PERSONAL IMPACT

When we have a sense of vision & purpose, we will embrace each morning with new motivation.
God's will for us as leaders is to have more & more impact or influence in life.
• Influence is a result of something else. What's it?
If we're not doing with what God gives me now, we will not do well with what He will entrust in he future.
The life of David
• started by looking after his dad's sheep
• then served under Saul's leadership
• became king of 2,5 tribes
• eventually became king over 12 Israel tribes
“Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. (Acts 13:36 NIV)
Three principles from David's life:
1. DEVELOP YOUR CHARACTER
What Samson built with his charisma was ruined by his (lack of good) characters.
But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” (1 Samuel 13:14 NIV)
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV)
God chose David not because of his outside, but his inside.
• character, attitude, motives, what's happening on the inside
• the inside, not outside, qualities
Your greatest impact comes from who you are, not what you can do!
• that's why God chose David.. his Heart!
Exercise:
• who gives you the biggest impact in life?
• what traits of the person which made you choose him or her?
• not what they know or do, but who they are on the inside.. the traits within them.
So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.” One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.” (1 Samuel 16:17-18 NIV)
• David is a very attractive person
• (?) What do others see in you?
• it's our inside character that attracts people to you or repels them from you
• Then the children ran to Jesus.. what kind of people do kids run to?
• Develop a personality with pleasant qualities, especially if you're a leader
Become a person of character that other people enjoy being with.
And David shepherded them with INTEGRITY of heart; with skillful hands he led them. (Psalm 78:72 NIV)
• David is a person of Integrity
• the inside & the outside well match
• Developing a fear of the Lord (healthy respect) which results in a life of integrity
• to fear = to always know that He is with me
• Imagine what kind of life being fully aware that God watches us & is with us every single time
David has a faith-filled Attitude.
• he saw Goliath & the greatness of GOD
Character qualities are normally developed in the opposite situations with that particular character!
• being offended - forgiveness
• slow people - patience
2. IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS
Add to character development is the improvement of our skills or competence.
• Excellence is gradually done, it takes journey
And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with SKILLFUL hands he led them. (Psalm 78:72 NIV)
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.” (1 Samuel 16:18 NIV)
• When Saul asked David to play the lyre cast away he devil out of the demon-possessed
• David must have developed his skills by then!
• David will never be able to win over Goliath before he can
We develop our skills privately & in smaller scales, so we'll be prepared when then bigger ones come.
A few tips on developing your skills:
a. Pay attention to Details.
A small leak can sink a big ship!
People will not remember how fast you do things, but how well you do it.
b. Go the extra mile.
If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. (Matthew 5:41 NIV)
Do more than expected, not just the minimal.
The gap between the ordinary & extra ordinary is that little extra.
3. SEEK GOD'S FAVOR
So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came POWERFULLY upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.
• God's anointing upon David is so tangible
• It isn't just a certain style or personality, rather a sense of God being active in & through one's life
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And THE LORD IS WITH HIM” (1 Samuel 16:13, 18 NIV)
• the manifest/revealed presence of GOD is with David, not just His presence
How do we develop God's anointing?
• Spend time with God!
David loves hanging around God's presence.
• Prayer is a simply a convo with God, which helps us develop our self confidence.
When we pray, we express our dependency upon God. When we don't?
Jesus hints His disciples "Without me you can do nothing of lasting significance.."
• Only the power & presence of God can help change a person's life
• ie. your family members, spouse, DATE Member
Prayer invites God's Spirit to work through us.
• Father is in Heaven
• Jesus is at His right hand
• The Holy Spirit is within our life
Holy Spirit is within us, but the question is do we ever fellowship with Him?
• if not, it's like having someone in your home but never talking to him
Holy Spirit's Names are Helper & Comforter.
• He's just a prayer away for help & comfort
The sense of anointing comes from our continuous dependence on God through His Spirit.
• I can do all things through the indwelling Christ who lives in me.
Humility attracts God's presence.
• God resists he proud but gives grace to the humble
Failures can be our greatest learning point.
Closing:
The purpose of our influence is for the glory of God and the benefit of others!
